By the end of the year, Sony will completely replace the current model

Gaming insider Tom Henderson confirms that the thin version of the PlayStation 5 will hit stores as early as September this year.

In addition, he added that Sony plans to completely replace the current model by the end of 2023. This will be achieved by producing less than one million original PlayStation 5s and many more thin models.

This is consistent with the information published last year that the new PlayStation 5 game console with a removable optical drive will go into production in April 2023 and go on sale in September 2023.

The biggest change to the new PlayStation 5 is that it will feature a removable optical drive that will connect to the PlayStation 5 via a USB-C connector on the back of the console. However, the optical drive will not be compatible with the previously released PlayStation 5 Digital Edition.

It was previously reported that the optical drive would be offered separately for $100. The same will be the difference between a set of a console with a drive and only the console itself.

Tom Henderson also claims that Sony is working on a new PlayStation-branded device that will be released before the PlayStation 5 Pro .

Tom Henderson previously released exact data on Call of Duty: Vanguard and Battlefield 2042.
