Illegally installed by order of Elon Musk, the X logo was removed a few days after installation
On Monday, July 31, workers dismantled a huge letter “X” on the roof of a building in downtown San Francisco, where the company formerly known as Twitter is headquartered. The reason is that the locals complained about the bright flashing light that bothered them all night.
“Turn it off,” says one of the many complaints filed with the city’s building inspection department. “The sign is flashing quickly and very brightly. This creates a huge nighttime inconvenience and interferes with sleep,” said another resident. “I don’t understand why he had to blink so brightly,” added another.
Recall that last week, Elon Musk’s company renamed Twitter to X and illegally replaced the original logo with a huge X , prompting 24 complaints about structural safety and bright lighting, according to the city’s Department of Building Inspection.
“Turn it off,” the X logo that annoyed San Francisco residents has already been removed.
According to Patrick Hannan, a spokesman for the city’s Department of Building Inspection, the building’s owner will be fined for the installation and removal of the structure, as well as the cost of the city’s investigation into the matter.
Matt Dorsey, a member of the supervisory board whose county includes Building X, said he was trying to get in touch with Musk so they could talk “productively” about the company’s relationship with San Francisco. He said the company’s actions last week seemed “hostile” to the city, and he doesn’t quite understand why Musk allows his company to behave in this way.
“They should know it was illegal,” Dorsey said of the unauthorized sign installation.
