Twitter bought Breaker podcast app to develop voice chats

Beta testing of Spaces’ voice chats began last month on Twitter. Now it has become known about the purchase of a podcast application called Breaker, which is available to users of devices on Android and iOS. A post about this was posted on the official Breaker developer page.

“ Today we are pleased to announce that the Breaker team has joined Twitter,” wrote Breaker Chief Executive Erik Berlin. He also noted that the developers of the podcast app are “genuinely passionate about audio communication” and are “inspired by how Twitter is helping people around the world communicate.”

The message says that the Breaker app will stop working on January 15th. Authors who have used the service to host their podcasts are encouraged to transfer their content to some other platform. Closing the app will allow developers to focus on further collaboration with Twitter.

A Twitter spokesperson noted that Breaker’s development team will help the social network improve the communication experience for platform users. Breaker experts will help with further development of Spaces voice chats so that they become more popular in the future. At the moment, there is no information on what technology is being developed at Breaker. The source suggests that we can talk about a tool for exporting voice chats as audio files for later listening. The results of the joint work of developers from Twitter and Breaker will be able to evaluate in the future all users of the social network.
