In California, AutoX allowed testing autonomous cars without a driver while driving

AutoX, a Chinese startup based in Hong Kong that develops autonomous driving technology with the support of e-commerce giant Alibaba, has received permission from the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to test non-driver vehicles in the streets within a certain part of the territory San Jose.

AutoX has been approved by the DMV for testing self-driving cars with drivers since 2017. The new license allows the company to test one autonomous car without a driver driving on the streets in the area of its headquarters in San Jose. Prior to this, only two companies in California received such permission – Waymo and Nuro.

The document stipulates that AutoX will be able to drive its test vehicles in “good weather” and low rainfall on the streets at a speed not exceeding 45 mph (72 km / h). Currently, 62 companies in the state have been granted permission to test autonomous vehicles, provided that an employee is required to drive, for a safety net.

AutoX recently launched a robotic taxi service in Shenzhen and Shanghai with a fleet of about 100 self-driving cars.

Earlier this year, the company announced plans to partner with Fiat Chrysler to deploy robotic taxi services in China and other Asian countries. In addition, by the end of this year, AutoX plans to launch a pilot project of a robotic taxi service in Europe in partnership with the Swedish electric vehicle manufacturer NEVS.
