Upcoming Powerful AMD Ryzen 7 5800H Mobile Processor on Zen 3 Checked in Geekbench

Internet detective Tum_Apisak found the first mention of an 8-core and 16-thread Ryzen 7 5800H mobile processor in the Geekbench 5 synthetic benchmark database. The chip will be part of the new Ryzen 5000H series of high-performance mobile APUs for gaming laptops. The release of the latter should take place next year.

Unlike the energy-efficient Ryzen 5000U chips that will be featured on AMD’s Zen 3 (Cezanne) and Zen 2 (Lucienne) architectures, the Ryzen 5000H series of processors will consist exclusively of Cezanne chips on the new Zen 3 architecture.

The Geekbench 5 database indicates the Ryzen 7 5800H has a base clock speed of 3.2 GHz, which is 300 MHz higher than the Ryzen 7 4800H in the current Renoir family. It can also be noted that the new processor has twice the amount of cache memory of the 3rd level – 16 MB versus 8 MB Ryzen 7 4800H.

The very low-performance result of the Ryzen 7 5800H in the Geekbench 5 test is explained by the artificially limited settings for the maximum frequency of the engineering sample of the processor in a certain Lenovo laptop. In most tests, the chip ran at around 500 MHz. The processor family identifier (Family 25) indicates that the chip is indeed built on the Zen 3 architecture.
