WhatsApp has released a new beta version of the app for iOS: QR codes arrive, functionality already anticipated last year and now distributed through a server activation to a small group of users who are part of the TestFlight program.

Each account will have a unique QR code: by framing it with the smartphone’s camera, a second user will be able to quickly save the profile data associated with it by storing the name and phone number among the WhatsApp contacts. However, the code can be deleted and created from scratch at any time.

Sharing data via QR is simple: those who want to transmit their data will have to press the appropriate icon to view the code on the screen, while those who want to save them on their smartphone must instead select “Scan”. At that point the camera will activate and the data will be recorded instantly. You can quickly access your QR Code even by holding down on the app icon, but only on devices with 3D Touch or Haptic Touch .

Support for QR codes on Android – WABetaInfo says – will come very soon .
