When to wait for the five-nanometer Ryzen 5000 with support for DDR5 and USB4

Probably in early 2022

Last summer, AMD introduced the Ryzen 3000 desktop processors, which switched to the 7 nm process technology and the Zen 2 architecture. In autumn this year, Ryzen 4000 desktop CPUs based on the Zen 3 architecture await us.

These will be the latest AMD AM4 desktop processors. They will be followed by Ryzen 5000 processors based on Zen 4 architecture, which will require a new socket. But at the same time, these CPUs will require a new socket for good reason.

Firstly, they will switch to the 5 nm manufacturing process, and secondly, to DDR5 RAM. Probably there will be other significant changes, but so far basically it is known about the above.

ryzen 5000 release date

It was believed that such processors will be released at the end of 2021. However, we see that AMD does not release a new generation a year after the previous one, but a little later. And new data indicate that the desktop Ryzen 5000 will not be released at the end of 2021, but already in 2022. When exactly, it is unclear, but probably at the beginning of the year.

The source says that the Ryzen 5000 will continue to use the PCIe 4.0 interface, which is logical, but they can boast native support for USB4. You can also expect another increase in the number of cores, but so far there is not even a rumour about it.

Interestingly, the Ryzen 5000 desktop hybrid processors, which will also be released in 2022, allegedly will be based on some Zen 3+ architecture, which we have not heard about before. At the same time, they will also have DDR5 support. Recall that both desktop and mobile Ryzen APUs seem to “lag behind” desktop CPUs by one generation, despite the names in the same series.
