This is Ryzen Z1 and Z1 Extreme
Most of the parameters of the Asus ROG Ally portable game console have been revealed the other day . Among other things, it was about the Ryzen Z1 processor. It has now been revealed that the console will actually be available in two versions based on different platforms.
The basic version will receive Ryzen Z1, and the older version will boast Ryzen Z1 Extreme. It is the second processor that will apparently be a version of the Ryzen 7 7840U with eight processor cores and a Radeon 780M GPU with 768 stream processors.
Will the Asus ROG Ally base portable console be slower than the Steam Deck?
But the base Ryzen Z1 will be weaker. It will receive six processor cores, that is, it will be a Ryzen 5 model. At the same time, according to available data, such APUs should receive a Radeon 760M GPU with 384 stream processors, but Geekbench says only 256 stream processors. It is not yet clear whether this is a software bug or whether the console will actually receive such an APU. If the second option is correct, then the performance of such a set-top box will be much lower than that of the older version and clearly lower than that of the Steam Deck, despite the newer architecture. However, for many undemanding games this is enough, and the price of such a version should be lower.
In any case, we are waiting for two modifications, that is, consumers will have a choice.
