Windows 10 20H1 “May 2020 Update” may begin to roll out between May 26th and 28th. Microsoft revealed it itself, updating the driver release calendar.
The document, which you can see by following the SOURCE link at the bottom of the article, helps third-party manufacturers understand the ideal days to start distributing updates without overlapping with those of Microsoft.
The document was updated just a few hours ago with the addition of three days, precisely on 26, 27 and 28 May, circled in yellow: the legend below explains the reason; it’s difficult to read, but it says “Feature Update”.
There is a good chance that the document is right. That of the previous year turned out to be true, for example.
It is also worth noting that it is not the first time that date turns up: ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley, longtime Microsoft observer with very solid internal contacts, had already indicated May 28 already a month ago.
In recent days, Panos Panay himself had confirmed that the update would arrive by the month of May: without saying anything more precise, but dispelling any doubts about the punctuality of the release – more than legitimate, this year, with the chaos caused by the pandemic.
As always, the update should be rolled out gradually. According to what happened with the previous feature updates, in the initial stages it will be available only to those actively looking for it on Windows Update – perhaps with some exceptions for certain hardware configurations in case critical bugs and stability problems emerge.
In the future it should appear automatically on Windows Update, but not install itself: it is always the user who must authorize the installation.
So those who prefer to wait can continue to keep the system up to date and safe with cumulative patches.
For the more “daredevils”, finally, we remember that in the Release Preview ring of the Insiders the final build of the update is already available for download. It should already be very stable, but it is formally non-definitive software, so proceed at your own risk.
