Yandex announced “words of the decade” in search

As noted in Yandex, compilers of dictionaries have such a genre – the word of the year, and the company also decided to “play” this game. As a result, we analyzed search queries over ten years and selected common nouns, the use of which more than three times in different years. For example, in 2012, the most popular of them was the word multicooker, in 2015 – twerk, in 2020 – quarantine.

The entire rating by years looks like this:

• 2011 – tablet, coupon, default
• 2012 – slow cooker, memes, ultrabook
• 2013 – meteorite, play cast, promo code
• 2014 – maidan, goji, sanctions
• 2015 – twerk, cake, slip-on
• 2016 – hoverboard, petition, vape
• 2017 – spinner, mining, cryptocurrency
• 2018 – slime, carsharing, squishies
• 2019 – recession, postirany, lustration
• 2020 – quarantine, pass, constitution
