AMD A520 budget motherboards will get support for AMD Cezanne (Ryzen 5000G) APUs

ASUS has presented its new budget motherboard TUF A520, built on the entry-level AMD A520 chipset. According to one of the slides, all AMD 500 series chipsets, including the new A520, in addition to supporting the already released Ryzen 3000 (Matisse) and Ryzen 4000G (Renoir) processors, will also support the Ryzen 4000 (Vermeer) and Ryzen 5000G ( Cezanne) chips.

AMD’s Vermeer and Cezanne desktop processor series are expected to use the new Zen 3 architecture. The Vermeer generation chips are expected to be announced later this year, with Cezanne APUs due next year.

Another detail of the ASUS slide is no less interesting. According to the image, the Taiwanese manufacturer does not claim support for Zen 3 processors for 400 series boards (B450 and X470). After AMD announced that the Zen 3 generation processors would not work with 400-series boards, criticism rained down on the company. Ultimately AMD had to make concessions and reconsider its decision.

The company has confirmed that it will release a special version of the microcode with support for new processors on older motherboards and distribute it to its partners in the motherboard industry. But they themselves will have to decide whether to release new BIOS versions based on it. Apparently ASUS decided to abandon the implementation of this support.

AMD itself has not yet announced any plans for a 600-series motherboard. But it is quite possible that together with the announcement of the new series, the company will finally abandon the current Socket AM4 processor socket and present a new Socket AM5.
