AMD flagship Radeon RX 6900 XT fails to catch up with GeForce RTX 3080 in Geekbench OpenCL benchmarks

It’s just a few days before AMD officially launches its fastest Radeon Big Navi graphics card. The results for the Radeon RX 6900 XT were found in the Geekbench OpenCL benchmark database, and they suggest that it will be a very fast accelerator.

Scoring 169,779 points in Geekbench OpenCL, the graphics card was 12% faster than the RX 6800 XT, and 35% faster than the RX 6800. Interestingly, the Radeon RX 6900 XT has 11% more stream processors than the RX 6800 XT. and 33% more than the RX 6800, so performance scaling is nearly linear. The RX 6900 XT video card is still inferior to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 3090, which are respectively 4% and 19% faster than it in this test.

AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT is a full-fledged model on the Navi 21 XTX chip with 80 compute units (5120 stream processors). Like the other two models based on the Navi 21 chip, the older Radeon RX 6900 XT comes with 16 GB GDDR6 memory and uses a 256-bit bus. And the lack of bandwidth is compensated for by the high-speed Infinity Cache of 128 MB.

The Radeon RX 6900 XT has frequencies similar to the RX 6800 XT, with a base clock of 2015 MHz and a boost clock of 2250 MHz. These figures are easy for the chip, so most partner cards should get better results from factory overclocking. The model has the same power limitation as to the RX 6800 XT – 300W.

AMD is set to release the Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics card on December 8th. This model has a US MSRP of $ 999, which is 1.5 times less than the GeForce RTX 3090. However, you can hardly expect that it will be easy to buy for that amount – as is the case with the rest of the RDNA 2 graphics cards in the coming months prices will be much higher than the recommended ones due to the lack of supply.
