AMD Radeon Pro 5700 XT iMac Owners Complain about Graphics Artifacts

Messages from users of new iMacs began to appear on the Apple tech support forum, indicating a problem with the AMD Radeon Pro 5700 XT graphics card. During operation, the computer starts to display flickering lines on the display. At the moment, only the owners of the 27-inch iMac in the maximum configuration, which are equipped with the Radeon Pro 5700 XT, are complaining about the problem.

The first user who left a comment about the problem on the Apple technical support website reported that the lines appear on the computer screen in an arbitrary way, no systematicity can be traced in this phenomenon. The author of the post said that he initially assumed that the artifacts could be caused by extreme heat during intense workloads. However, he later noticed that the defect can also appear in idle computer mode.

Another user reported that he noticed a similar defect during the initial setup of his iMac. After conducting his own research, he suggested that the cause of the problem lies exclusively with the Radeon Pro 5700 XT video card, without affecting other aspects of the computer.

It is unclear how widespread the problem is, but it only affects new iMacs with the highest performing graphics card available. Apple has yet to comment on the issue.
