In particular, the company spoke about fake chargers offered by fraudsters, the use of which could harm users. Many of these chargers are sold on Instagram, Facebook, and other social media platforms.

Often, they are produced by Chinese factories and illegal suppliers offering fake Apple-branded accessories at low prices that are difficult to distinguish from real ones. They are similar in appearance to genuine Apple products but do not meet the company’s safety standards.

Andrea Stroppa, a security researcher, accidentally used a fake charger borrowed from a friend that exploded when plugged in. After that, he and his colleagues from the Ghost Data Team conducted an investigation from February 8 to March 8, as a result of which 163 wholesalers of fake Apple products were identified on Instagram, including fake $ 25 AirPods Pro headphones and fake MagSafe chargers sold for $ 5. a piece.
