Dell unveils Latitude 9000 laptops with automatic webcam shutter

Dell has unveiled a new addition to its laptop family ahead of CES 2021, which will be held in virtual format this year. The new Latitude 9420 and 9520 models are equipped with SafeShutter to help users feel more secure when working remotely or learning remotely.

For the first time in the industry, Dell says new laptops feature an automatic webcam shutter that can be opened or closed to sync with video conferencing applications. You no longer need to stick tape on your laptop camera when you are not on a conference call to protect yourself from possible use by hackers to monitor you. In addition, the new 9000 series notebooks are equipped with mute and mute buttons.

It is reported that the new models will also feature 11th Gen Intel Core vPro processors. Details are scarce for the Latitude 9520, but the Latitude 9420 has more enhancements for working remotely from home. It received better quality than its predecessors, built-in speakers, and an improved webcam, which automatically corrects light and background blur. The new 9000 series models will be offered in both traditional form factor and 2-in-1 configurations, with the latter having optional 5G or 4G LTE and eSIM support. The Latitude 9420 laptop will go on sale in the spring at a price of $ 1949, and the cost and release date of the Dell Latitude 9520 will be announced this spring.

Dell also announced the Latitude 7520 laptop with 15-inch 4K UHD display and an optional high-definition camera. The company announced that the new Latitude 5000 and Precision 3560 series now use bioplastic from wood waste – their covers contain 21% bioplastic. This is in line with Dell’s strategy of making half of its products with recycled components by 2030. The new Latitude 5420 and Precision 3560 laptops will be available on January 12, starting at $ 1,049 and $ 1189, respectively.

Dell has also revamped the OptiPlex series with the 3090 Ultra, a budget-friendly small business model that starts at $ 659. Another new OptiPlex 7090 Ultra computer with support for simultaneous connection of up to four 4K monitors will cost $ 769 and up. Both new items will go on sale on January 28th.
