Import to Google Drive is no longer required

Google has made it much easier to open and edit Microsoft Office documents in Gmail.

Finally, Google. Gmail allowed editing Microsoft Office documents directly

A new feature in Google Workspace (formerly known as G Suite) is to edit documents without leaving your Gmail inbox. Previously, documents sent as attachments had to be imported into Google Drive and then used Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides.

Now users will see a new “Edit” option for the attachment. After completing editing, the document can be shared via email. Both of these innovations simplify the document workflow and eliminate several unnecessary steps that were previously required.

The new feature has started to gradually roll out to Google Workspace users. It will become available to all users within a couple of weeks. It is not yet clear if there are plans to implement similar functionality for regular Gmail users.
