Google really changed its mind about making flagships: Pixel 5 spotted in the benchmark with Snapdragon 765G

Google Pixel 4 was considered a flagship smartphone without a stretch. He owed this status, first of all, to the Snapdragon 855 processor, which at the time of its release in October 2019 led the lineup of Qualcomm SoCs. However, its successor Pixel 5, which is due to be announced in early October 2020, will apparently not receive the high-performance Snapdragon 865 chipset.

On the eve of the Google Pixel 5, it was listed in the AI Benchmark. If you believe the information that appeared there, the smartphone is built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor. This chip is manufactured using a 7nm process technology and contains eight Kryo 475 cores with a clock speed of up to 2.4 GHz, an Adreno 620 graphics accelerator, and an X52 5G modem. The Snapdragon 765G in the Pixel 5 works in tandem with 8GB of RAM.

Snapdragon 765G is also a productive hardware platform, but in terms of speed, it is still inferior to Snapdragon 865, and even more so to Snapdragon 865 Plus. This processor is positioned as the basis for mid-range smartphones. It is mainly used in devices that cost $ 300-500, such as OnePlus Nord, Vivo X50 5G and S7 5G, Redmi K30 5G, or Oppo Reno4 5G.

Recall that last week, from the words of an unnamed Google representative, it became known that the company has stopped production of Pixel 4 and 4 XL, and retailers are selling the remaining copies. If the characteristics of the Pixel 5 are confirmed, then the “four” will be the last “Google phone” with the flagship Snapdragon 800-series chipset. At least at this stage.
