After a long wait time and numerous leaks, Google has finally unveiled the new affordable Pixel 4a smartphone. The device was supposed to be announced at a Google I / O event earlier this year but has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The company is positioning the Pixel 4a as an affordable smartphone with a great camera and pure Android 10 operating system.
The device has a 12MP main camera with a single lens, which, however, supports all the same features as the dual camera of the flagship Pixel 4, like portrait and night modes. For security purposes, the smartphone is equipped with the Titan M encryption module. Google guarantees that the device will receive security patches and new versions of the operating system for three years.
Unlike last year’s Pixel 3a, the new smartphone will only come in one size. The Pixel 4a boasts a 5.8-inch Full HD + AMOLED display that supports HDR + content playback. The device is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G chipset, which is paired with 6GB of RAM. The built-in storage capacity is 128 GB.
As for the built-in battery, its capacity is 3140 mAh, which, according to the manufacturer, will allow the device to work for 24 hours with the Adaptive Battery function enabled. Supports 18W fast charging. The smartphone is made in a plastic case, and its weight is 147 grams with dimensions of 144 × 69.4 × 8.2 mm. It’s worth mentioning that the Pixel 4a is equipped with high-quality stereo speakers and an NFC module that can be used for contactless payments.
The Google Pixel 4a has branded fabric cases available in three color options: black, gray, or blue. Remarkably, this material is made from recycled plastic bottles. Thanks to the special design of the fabric, the cover is very resistant to wear and tear and dirt can be easily removed from it.
The cost of the smartphone in the US is $ 349, which is $ 50 less than the main competitor in the face of the iPhone SE, which, moreover, is equipped with 64 GB of storage and a 4.7-inch display with huge bezels by today’s standards. Additionally, all buyers of the new Pixel 4a will receive three months of free subscriptions to YouTube Premium, Google Play Pass, and Google One. It is reported that due to the problems caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the smartphone will go on sale outside the US towards the end of the year. In addition, Google has officially announced that it will unveil the 5G-capable Pixel 4a in the fall, starting at $ 499, and the new flagship Pixel 5 smartphone.
