Google+ users will receive $ 12 compensation for personal data breaches

Although the social network Google+ has ceased to exist, it continues to remind of itself. According to online sources, Google has agreed to pay $ 7.5 million to settle a class-action lawsuit in the case of data leakage of 50 million social network users due to “software bugs.” Despite the fact that the incident occurred back in 2018, its consideration continued until recently.

While the total payout looks quite impressive, every user whose data was compromised in the course of this incident will receive a modest compensation of about $ 12. The final amount of payments will depend on how many social network users send a request for compensation.

It is worth noting that users who receive compensation will not be able to further submit any legal claims to Google in this case. Google has already sent notifications to users about the possibility of receiving compensation. User requests on this issue will be accepted until October 8 this year.

Users who had a Google+ account between January 1, 2015, and April 2, 2019, can apply for monetary compensation. In addition, the account had to contain “personal information”, ie. data that is not intended to be shared. You will also need to consent to share this data with another Google+ user or third party application.
