Half of smartphones with flexible OLED panels will be sold by Apple in 2021

Apple began equipping its wearable devices with flexible OLED panels before using them on the iPhone. In 2017, when the technology was tested, Apple began to equip smartphones with such matrices. A fresh report says that half of all phones with flexible OLED panels will be sold by Apple in 2021.

Research firm Stone Partners estimates there will be 1.39 billion smartphones shipped in 2021. 793 million will receive LCD screens. The remaining 597 million will be equipped with OLED panels. It is estimated that 315 million phones will offer flexible OLED panels to users. This is 52 percent more than this year. Flexible OLED screens have soft plastic backing that is impact-resistant, thinner, and lighter.

It is reported that Apple will sell 160 million iPhones with OLED screens next year, accounting for more than half of the total sold devices with flexible panels. In addition, the report says that it is thanks to Apple that the supply of flexible OLED-matrixes will exceed the supply of rigid panels.

Samsung sold 90 million devices with these displays last year. 8 million came from Huawei. As for next year, it is reported that 18 million smartphones with flexible OLED screens will be sold by Xiaomi and OPPO, another 12 million will come from Vivo.
