In terms of camera capabilities, the Google Pixel 5 did not even make it to the top ten leaders in the DxOMark ranking

The Google Pixel 5 smartphone, which was announced on September 30 and went on sale on October 15, has been tested by the DxOMark specialists of the rear camera. The overall score was 120 points. The result is decent, but not outstanding. As a result, Pixel 5 was ranked 15th.

According to the new DxOMark testing protocol, the overall score is made up of three categories – photo quality for the main module (Photo), photo with zoom in, and with an extended viewing angle (Zoom), and video recording quality (Video). For the photo on the main module of Google Pixel 5, he earned 129 points – the result of the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, which is on the fourth line of the overall rating, is only one point higher. For the video, the Google smartphone received a score of 107.

The key advantages of the Pixel 5 were exposure, color rendering, fast and accurate autofocus, and the ability to deal well with artifacts in images. Detailing and texture processing are also good, but the noticeable noise still prevented the camera from getting a higher score.

But it was the new Zoom category that had the biggest impact on the overall score. The shots taken with the ultra-wide-angle module lacked the viewing angle – many competitors are able to capture more objects. When it comes to shooting with zoom, Google Pixel 5 is generally not suitable for it. Due to the lack of a separate telephoto lens, even 2x zooming in will reduce detail.

Night photography and portrait photography were generally on the level, although not without drawbacks. For example, when blurring the background, the image processing algorithm sometimes made mistakes when there was more than one face in the frame.

Video recording is decent too – even stabilization at 2160p / 30fps works effectively. With sufficient lighting, exposure, detail, and color rendition are sufficient. If it weren’t for the noticeable noise, the video score would have been higher.
