Instagram will launch its own analogue of Clubhouse and add support for end-to-end encryption

The surge in popularity of the voice social network Clubhouse has not gone unnoticed by other market participants such as Facebook and Twitter, who are preparing to release their own counterparts. According to reports, Facebook intends to add the ability to organize voice chat rooms and support end-to-end encryption to its Instagram social network.

The recently launched Live Rooms on Instagram, which allow you to organize live broadcasts with four users, have already gained popularity. In addition to this, the developers plan to add the ability to organize online audio broadcasts, to which a large number of platform users will be able to join.

Application researcher Alessandro Paluzzi managed to discover the feature in development, who shared pictures of how this tool will look in Instagram mobile applications. In one of the images, a microphone appeared next to the camera icon, usually available during live video broadcasts. The placement of the microphone next to the camera suggests that Instagram will create audio and video rooms.

Facebook’s intention to clone Clubhouse first became known last month. The developers confirmed that Instagram “is exploring more interactive tools such as moderation and audio features that will become available in the coming months .”

As far as end-to-end encryption is concerned, this feature is expected. Last month, Facebook began merging the Instagram and Messenger apps as part of a plan announced in 2019 by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. According to this plan, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp services will be combined into a single messaging platform. Even then, Zuckerberg said that support for end-to-end encryption should be implemented for all messengers of the company, but now this function is only in WhatsApp.
