This is achieved through hardware acceleration via GPU.

There are more and more details on the Web about the recently released May 10 update of Windows 10, and its new aspect will surely please users of not very powerful computers. After installing the update, Windows 10 can control the built-in or discrete processor and its memory – in theory, hardware acceleration by means of a GPU in Windows should reduce the load on the central processor, increase productivity both in the OS and in games.

The greatest effect will be noticeable in computers and laptops, entry-level and intermediate level, whose performance is already low. The function must be activated after installing the Windows 10 2004 update in the graphics settings, after which you will need to restart the PC.

It should be noted that the hardware acceleration of the GPU in Windows 10 does not yet work with all video cards. For example, for Nvidia models, you need to install the driver GeForce Driver 451.48 or later. Of the AMD graphics cards, only the Radeon RX 5700 and 5600 series are supported so far (even the RX 5500 line is not supported). Intel has promised to include feature support in its drivers in the future.

According to independent tests that have already been carried out by testers, Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling allows, albeit slightly, but to increase gaming performance. For example, the MSI GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Gaming Z showed an average increase of 1-2 FPS in various games (Doom Eternal, Red Dead Redemption 2) at a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels.
