Mobile Ryzen 9 5900HX with a frequency of up to 4.7 GHz was faster than the desktop Core i7-10700K

Fresh benchmark results published by informant Tum_Apisak show the Geekbench 5 performance of the upcoming AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX mobile APU, codenamed Cezanne. According to rumours, this solution will receive Zen 3 cores and, apparently, will be able to plug even Intel desktop processors in the belt.

For those who haven’t followed the Cezanne rumours, the Ryzen 9 5900HX is likely to be AMD’s new flagship APU for laptops. The HX suffix most likely means relatively high power consumption and, accordingly, increased performance.

The Ryzen 9 5900HX replaces the current flagship Ryzen 9 4900H with eight of the latest Zen 3 cores (and 16 threads) that will offer an even higher instruction execution rate (IPC). In addition, the Ryzen 9 5900HX will also feature 16MB of L3 cache, double that of the Ryzen 9 4900H.

According to Geekbench 5, the Ryzen 9 5900HX has a base frequency of 3.3 GHz and Turbo speeds up to 4.71 GHz. So, if we compare the result of the Ryzen 9 5900HX, which appeared in the test database, it will be 23.7% more powerful in single-core mode than the Ryzen 9 4900H. On the other hand, multi-threaded performance remained roughly the same – just 2.2% faster.

AMD’s new Zen 3 mobile flagship also performs well even when compared to Intel’s Comet Lake-S desktops. The Ryzen 9 5900HX is 12.9% faster in single-core mode than the Core i7-10700K and is on par with this eight-core processor under multi-threaded load. Moreover, the Ryzen 9 5900HX outperformed the Core i9-10900K in single-core mode by 8.5%. This is an outstanding result considering the Core i7-10700K and Core i9-10900K are 125W desktop processors.

The latest rumours claim that the Ryzen 5000 family of mobile solutions could be unveiled as early as January 12 during AMD’s presentation at CES 2021.
