Nintendo Switch sales soar 44% in a year and are not going to stop
According to The Verge, Nintendo Switch sales are up 44% in the first quarter of 2021 compared to the same period last year. In total, the company was able to sell 28.83 million consoles during the fiscal year, up 37% from the 21 million consoles sold last year and above Nintendo’s own forecasts.
Since the release of the Nintendo Switch in 2017, the company has sold just 84.59 million consoles. This figure will probably be able to overcome the sales volume of the Nintendo Wii, which has sold 101.63 million units over the entire time. Either way, the Nintendo Switch is already one of the best-selling consoles in history.
Along with console sales, sales of games for the Nintendo Switch grew by 37%. Users from January to March bought 230.88 million digital copies of projects for the Nintendo handheld console. During the same period of 2020, only 168.72 million games were sold on the Nintendo Store. The most popular game of all was Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which sold 20.85 million digital copies, followed by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (10.62 million), Super Mario 3D All-Star (9 .01 million), and Ring Fit Adventure (7.38 million).
At the same time, Nintendo’s revenue amounted to 1.76 trillion Japanese yen (about $ 16 billion), which is an excellent indicator for the company.
