But even without nitrogen, performance is impressive

A couple of weeks ago, we wrote about the world’s most powerful consumer notebook, the XMG Apex 15. He earned this title thanks to the use of the desktop 16-core processor Ryzen 9 3950X.

It was to this laptop that the famous overclocker Der8auer got. Although it is worth clarifying that its instance was equipped with a Ryzen 9 3900 CPU, it was replaced with a 16-core monster for tests.

Firstly, overclocker disassembled a mobile PC, which allows us to evaluate, for example, the dimensions and complexity of the cooling system. Secondly, we can see that even with 16 cores and relatively high frequencies, the Ryzen 9 3950X can indeed exist within a laptop, albeit a very bulky one. In particular, by default, the processor consumes only 55.6 W and heats up to 75 ° C.

As a result, in this form in the Cinebench R20, the processor gains 474 and 6943-7016 points in single-threaded and multi-threaded modes, respectively. Small manipulations with power limits lead to the fact that the indicators grow to 472 and 8025 points, respectively, and the temperature – up to 85 ° C.

And, of course, Der8auer would not be a famous overclocker if it had not tried something more. Yes, he used liquid nitrogen.

The temperature dropped to 20 ° C, and the multi-threaded performance in the Cinebench R20 rose to 9215 points, which is even more than the Ryzen 9 3950X demonstrates in a desktop PC. Of course, this is an experiment for the sake of experiment, but any extreme overclocking is just that.
