Rebranding went unnoticed

A week ago, Nvidia introduced the GA100 GPU, the top-of-the-line Ampere next-generation solution. Then we were shown the Nvidia A100 – a specialized accelerator based on the new GPU.

Typically, such accelerators belong to the Tesla family, and we suggested that a different name may be due to rebranding. Apparently, it is.

If you go to the Nvidia website now, you can still find a section with Tesla accelerators there, but the models of such accelerators themselves have already been renamed – they have lost the word “Tesla”. For example, the Tesla V100 adapter turned into the Nvidia V100.

Third-party sources claim that the rebranding is due to the existence of the Tesla car company, which can cause confusion.

In fact, for the first time, Nvidia resorted to this rebranding at the end of 2018: then the Tesla T4 accelerator was released, which the company later renamed Nvidia T4. But now Nvidia has fixed such changes and extended them to the entire current line of accelerators.
