It looks like NVIDIA is really going to release another version of the GeForce RTX 3060 – the GeForce RTX 3060 Ultra. Network sources have shared images of a non-reference version of such a card made by ASUS. The main feature of the novelty will be the presence of 12 GB of GDDR6 video memory. It is reported that the GeForce RTX 3060 Ultra was originally supposed to be called simply the GeForce RTX 3060.
The resource Wccftech shared images of the unreleased GeForce RTX 3060 Ultra video card performed by ASUS (model TUF-RTX3060U-O12G-Gaming). As follows from the inscriptions on the box, this accelerator will be unique in the presence of 12 GB of video memory at once against the background of the fact that the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, GeForce RTX 3070 and GeForce RTX 3080 video cards, which have a smaller amount of video memory (8 or 10 GB respectively). This can probably be explained by the fact that in the future, the GeForce RTX 3000 series will also include Ultra versions of the GeForce RTX 3070 and GeForce RTX 3080 with a large amount of memory.
According to the source, ASUS is preparing several versions of the GeForce RTX 3060 Ultra at once, including as part of the flagship ROG Strix series. As for the TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3060 Ultra, this card will receive a massive cooling system with three fans. Judging by the images, it will take up 2.5 expansion slots in the PC case. Unfortunately, nothing has been reported yet about the configuration of the power supply of the video card. It can use either one or two 8-pin auxiliary power connectors if you follow the examples of other models in the TUF Gaming series. As for video connectors, the card will receive one HDMI interface and three DisplayPort.
Additionally, it is indicated that the recommended cost of the reference version of the GeForce RTX 3060 Ultra will be $ 449. The announcement of the new product is expected on January 12, as part of the previously planned NVIDIA event.
