Snapdragon 765G is really weaker

A few days ago, Honor introduced the Honor 30S smartphone, the first Huawei model on the Kirin 820 single-chip system. In its turn, the Kirin 820 is the company’s first mid-budget SoC with an integrated 5G modem.

The platform is expected to be very interesting and productive. And, if you focus on the words of Honor CEO Zhao Ming, Qualcomm simply does not have a worthy competitor for the new Kirin solution. Moreover, Ming believes that he will not be until the end of this year.

The Kirin 820 really stands a little apart from Qualcomm products. The Snapdragon 865 is much more productive, but also much more expensive, but the Snapdragon 765G can be called a direct competitor for the Kirin 820 in terms of positioning and the availability of a 5G modem, but the Kirin 820 is about 20% more productive, and this also applies to the GPU and CPU. In particular, in AnTuTu SoC Kirin 820 scores about 370-380 thousand points, and Snapdragon 765G – about 320 thousand.

In addition, the Kirin 820 will clearly appear in more affordable smartphones. For example, we can safely assume that the conditional Honor 10X will be based on this SoC, which will probably cost about 200-250 dollars. There are no smartphones with Snapdragon 765G and such a price in the market.

The problem is that Qualcomm simply does not need to compete with the Kirin 820. The latter is not available to anyone except Huawei / Honor itself, and smartphones of these brands are now in a difficult position due to the lack of Google services.
