Ryzen 5000 processors sold out in minutes. They soon appeared on eBay at inflated prices.

As expected, as soon as AMD began selling the next generation of Ryzen processors – Ryzen 5000 chips based on the Zen 3 architecture – they were instantly sold out. Unfortunately, many of the sold units ended up in the hands of speculators. Resource Tom’s Hardware reports that the site was flooded eBay offers to sell new chips at substantially higher prices.

Many potential American buyers complained that Ryzen 5000 processors were almost instantly sold out on two major American sites – Newegg and BestBuy – where they were sold at AMD’s recommended prices. Then some of the processors “surfaced” on eBay.

With an MSRP of $ 299, the junior six-core Ryzen 5 5600X is offered on eBay for $ 400-500. AMD’s $ 499 eight-core Ryzen 7 5800X is in most cases listed on the same marketplace for $ 600-700. The 12-core Ryzen 9 5900X with an MSRP of $ 549 could not be found under $ 612 at the time of this writing, according to Tom’s Hardware. However, most of the offers ranged from $ 800 to $ 900.

For the flagship 16-core Ryzen 9 5950X, AMD recommends a price of $ 799. However, among the majority of eBay offerings, prices range from $ 1,050 to $ 1,200. In some cases, the chip is offered for an absurd $ 1,700.

According to Tom’s Hardware, AMD works directly with retailers and is trying to prevent speculators from rampant. The resource expressed hope that in the near future the stocks of new AMD processors will be replenished, and prices will return to adequate values.

Recall that in Russia, the start of sales of Ryzen 5000 series processors is slightly delayed. However, the regional office of AMD has already announced the recommended prices for new items. Unfortunately, history shows that local retailers rarely listen to such recommendations.
