Sony has clarified what accessories and peripherals for the PlayStation 4 will be compatible with the PlayStation 5

Isabelle Tomatis, Senior Director of Sales and Licensing of PlayStation Peripherals, spoke about which PlayStation 4 accessories will work with the PlayStation 5, which will go on sale at the end of the year.

So, from existing peripherals and accessories with the PlayStation 5 will work:

  • licensed steering wheels, steering wheels and arcade controllers;
  • third-party headsets connected via USB and audio jack;
  • Gold and Platinum headphones, but the application for customizing them for games are not compatible with the PlayStation 5;
  • DualShock 4 and licensed third-party gamepads, but only in PlayStation 4 games for backward compatibility;
  • PS Move controllers and PlayStation VR headset in supported PlayStation 5 games
  • PlayStation Camera, but a special adapter is required, which Sony will provide to all PlayStation VR owners. As expected, the PlayStation 4 controller (DualShock 4) will not be supported in PlayStation 5 games. This is due to the new features and capabilities that DualSense offers in next-generation projects. Sony Interactive Entertainment also noted that not all officially licensed or third-party devices can work with the PlayStation 5 – it’s better to check with the manufacturer.
