30.5 million consoles
Sony has big plans for the PlayStation 5 in fiscal year 2023.
According to Insider Gaming, Sony plans to somehow sell 30.5 million PS5s this year. The nuance is that for all the time since the release of the console, 32 million devices have been sold.
Of course, for almost all this time, that is, more than two years, the PS5 suffered from a serious shortage, and only recently Sony managed to overcome it. However, still 30.5 million consoles in one year for a device that has been on sale for more than two years, this is a lot.
Apparently, Sony connects its expectations with the release of the updated PS5 with a removable optical drive. By the end of the year, 18.5 million of such consoles should be sold, that is, they will account for more than half of sales. However, this does not explain the huge jump in sales in general. Perhaps the new set-top box will be cheaper than the current one, but there have not even been rumors about this yet.
