Streaming gaming service Google Stadia leaves head of product
According to The Information, Google Stadia VP and Chief Product Officer John Justice left the company a couple of months after closing all internal development teams in the cloud gaming service division.
“We can confirm that John is no longer at Google and wish him well in his next step,” a Google spokesperson told 9to5Google. Justice’s departure follows Google’s February announcement of the closure of all internal Stadia development teams as part of a massive change in course that will focus the streaming platform on collaborating with third-party game companies.
“We believe this is the best way to make Stadia a long-term, sustainable business that helps grow the industry,” Stadia CEO Phil Harrison said at the time.
According to Kotaku data, which was confirmed by VGC sources, Google has informed its development studios in Montreal and Los Angeles that they will be closed and their projects will be canceled.
Stadia development leads Jade Raymond, an Assassin’s Creed veteran and founder of EA Motive, left the company simultaneously. So did the team formerly known as Typhoon Studios, developer of last year’s adventure shooter Journey to the Savage Planet.
After her departure, Raymond founded the independent studio Haven Entertainment, which is creating a game project with the support of Sony Interactive Entertainment.
