The average price of GeForce RTX 3080 from speculators has exceeded $ 2000
Data Engineer Michael Driscoll has shared the latest price statistics for GeForce RTX 3080 graphics accelerators sold by speculators on the eBay secondary market. This model is one of the most popular in the Ampere series of video cards, so dealers continue to raise the price tags on it.
If from the middle of September last year, the GeForce RTX 3080, which had recommended prices from 699 to 869 dollars (depending on the manufacturer), was actually sold on eBay from $ 1,300 to $ 1,500, then in recent weeks, its average cost has exceeded $ 2,000.
The median price of all GeForce RTX 30-series graphics cards began to rise since February this year. In the case of the GeForce RTX 3080 model, the maximum offer price was $ 2,400. Prices began to decline only last week, when NVIDIA released its most affordable GeForce RTX 3060 model in the Ampere series, setting its MSRP at $ 329.
“Prices stopped rising exactly when the GeForce RTX 3060 was released. This cannot be an ordinary coincidence. A decrease in value began to be observed, but not a strong one, ” Michael Driscoll shared with PCGamer.
The insane price hike has also spread to AMD’s latest Radeon graphics accelerators. The speculators sell them on eBay for twice the regular price.
The prices of eBay retailers also rose as ASUS, EVGA and MSI increased the initial cost of new graphics accelerators. The reasons for this growth are called a shortage of components for assembling video cards and an increase from 10 to 25% of US customs duties on certain types of goods imported from China. Another factor driving the rise in the cost of video cards is the next cryptocurrency boom.
