Will AMD overtake Intel again? Powerful Ryzen 5000H Mobile APUs Are Coming

Asus laptop with Ryzen 7 5800H hybrid processor spotted on the website of the Ukrainian store

Intel is preparing Tiger Lake-H processors for high-performance laptops, but it is not clear when they come out. The Geekebench benchmark recently featured a quad-core Core i7-11370H, but it did not perform well in tests. It is possible that Tiger Lake-H will be inferior to the current Ryzen 4000H APUs, while AMD already has new generation processors on its way.

Will AMD overtake Intel again? Powerful Ryzen 5000H Mobile APUs Are Coming

The Ryzen 5000 is expected to be announced at CES 2021 or shortly before its opening in early January, but so far, rumors have only talked about the premiere of the U-line APUs. Meanwhile, judging by the fact that one of Asus laptops based on the Ryzen 7 5800H APU is already spotted online, the powerful 45W Ryzen 5000H APUs could debut simultaneously. U-series APUs – and even before Tiger Lake-H!

About the Ryzen 7 5800H itself, you can not say anything. We can only assume that it has 8 cores, it has multithreading support, and the frequencies are higher than the Ryzen 4800H. Simultaneously, one thing draws attention to itself – the laptop has a discrete GeForce RTX 3070 Max-Q graphics card. The fact is that the Ryzen 4000H only supports the PCIe 3.0 x8 interface, so at best, laptops with such APUs are equipped with a GeForce RTX 2060. Support for the RTX 3070 suggests an updated PCIe controller. It probably provides support for PCIe 3.0 x16 or even PCIe 4.0.
