Will the cheap Xbox Series S be faster than the PlayStation 5 in cross-platform games? So says a former Microsoft specialist

He did not miss the opportunity to troll Sony after yesterday’s presentation

At the end of the day, Sony finally announced the cost of the PlayStation 5 game consoles yesterday. As expected, the regular version is priced at $ 500, while the diskless version costs $ 100  less.

Will the cheap Xbox Series S be faster than the PlayStation 5 in cross-platform games? So says a former Microsoft specialist

Thus, PS5 directly competes in price with Xbox Series X, but Xbox Series S is $ 100 cheaper than the PS5 Digital Edition. At the same time, the first one is three times inferior in performance to its older sister, but the younger Sony console differs from the older only in the absence of a drive.

It would seem that in the battle of the youngest, everything is quite simple: the Microsoft console is more accessible but weaker. However, there is an alternative opinion. Albert Penello, who previously headed Xbox marketing for 18 years, said the Xbox Series S could be faster than the PlayStation 5 in a number of games! That is, any of the PS5s since they are identical in performance.

After yesterday’s presentation, Panello on Twitter chatted with readers about the event and more. In particular, he wrote that the processor in the Xbox Series S is almost the same as in the Series X (that is, it is slightly more efficient than in the PlayStation 5), so it will have more free resources, which is why cross-platform games on the Xbox Series S can show higher frame rates than PS5. Recall that the GPU of the latter is about two and a half times more productive than the graphics core of the first, so Panello’s statement is seen more like a trolling or a statement by a Microsoft fan, despite all its professional qualities. Although, perhaps, he simply decided not to indicate that he meant the number of frames per second in different resolutions because the PS5 is focused on 4K, the Xbox Series S is focused on Full HD or 2K.

Also, Panello said that the Xbox Velocity Architecture technology will be as productive as the super-fast SSD in the PlayStation 5, and here, of course, something like that cannot be ruled out.

A former Microsoft employee supplemented this whole story with direct instigation from Sony.

An interesting turn of events. What was thought to be fundamental to Sony’s philosophy (“We believe in generations”) and Microsoft’s losing position (exclusive games also available on PC) were adopted in today’s show. A good test for Xbox strategy

The fact is that just a month ago Sony explained why many PlayStation 5 games will not be released on PlayStation 4, using the very phrase about faith in generations, the name in mind that new technologies are available on the new console, and gamers need to be given games, where it is used to the maximum. And yesterday’s event and the details that followed showed that many games announced for PS5, including as exclusives, will eventually be released on PS4. Some will also be available on PCs, which is exactly the same strategy that Microsoft is pursuing.
