Windows 10 update removes Flash and prevents it from being reinstalled

Microsoft has released an optional update for the Windows 10 software platform to remove Adobe Flash Player. It also prevents this component from being installed if the user chooses to return it to the operating system.

We are talking about the KB4577586 package, after the installation of which the Flash Player supplied with Windows 10 will be removed. In this case, stand-alone versions of the software that may have been manually installed by the user will not be removed. Also, Flash will not be removed from Microsoft Edge and other browsers.

Flash support in Windows 10 will officially end later this year. Also this year, support for Internet Explorer 11 and the older version of Edge will be discontinued. The new Chromium-powered Edge browser will no longer support Flash next January.

Last month, Microsoft released a timeline for the end of support for Flash, stating that the uninstall tool for this software will be available as an optional update that will be made available to users via Windows Update in early 2021. In the second half of the year, the Flash removal tool will be included in one of the cumulative updates and it will be distributed among OS users. Notably, Flash will be removed not only from all supported versions of Windows 10 but also from Windows 8.1.

It’s worth noting that Google is also dropping support for Flash in its Chrome browser. According to reports, Flash support will disappear from Chrome this December. In addition, Adobe also stopped developing Flash this year.
