YouTube tests syncing downloads across devices

One of the most popular premium features of the YouTube service allows you to download almost any video to your device for local playback. According to network sources, the developers intend to expand the capabilities of this tool by providing the option to synchronize downloads between different devices, for example, a smartphone and a tablet.

The message says that the aforementioned synchronization feature has been available to some users of the YouTube mobile application for Android for some time but is currently no longer available, or it is available to a small number of test participants. According to reports, a new option appears in the application settings menu that allows you to activate download synchronization, as well as specify which device should be used for this.

It should be noted that this is not the first time that data on the possible appearance of the upload synchronization function in YouTube has appeared. Back in 2018, experts examined the application code and found references to this tool in it. Since then, about two years have passed and, perhaps, the developers are finally ready to fully implement this feature.

Obviously, download synchronization is primarily targeting use in smartphones and tablets based on Android. However, the market for Android tablets is not that large, and many people do not have two smartphones between which they can synchronize downloadable videos. Therefore, it is difficult to say whether this feature will be popular if the developers make it publicly available.
