AMD Recalls Zen 3 Core Layout Advantage

Ryzen 5000 processors with Zen 3 architecture will be on sale from day to day, and therefore AMD decided to recall an important packaging advantage that sets them apart from their predecessors. All eight cores on a crystal are combined into one complex, they have equal access to 32 MB of the cache memory of the third level.

The proximity to the release of the first Ryzen 5000 processor reviews has prompted AMD’s CTO Robert Hallock to once again showcase his fine arts skills. Using the colored markers, he sketched the differences in the layout of the cores between the Zen 2 and Zen 3 processors on a transparent panel, respectively.

If the former divided a crystal with eight computing cores into two equal complexes of four cores, each of which accessed its own section of the third level cache memory with a volume of 16 MB, then in processors with the Zen 3 architecture all eight cores belong to a single complex, they are equal degree, the entire volume of the third-level cache is available, which is all the same 32 MB that was previously achieved in aggregate.

Previously, to address one core to another within a crystal, it was necessary to use the capabilities of the crystal with I / O logic, if the cores were located in different complexes. Now all the cores within the same complex can address each other directly. This significantly reduces latency in digital content creation applications or games, Robert Hallock said. Based on the experience of previous AMD presentations, it can be assumed that this will not be the only story about the features of Ryzen 5000 processors because there are still several days before the first official reviews appear.
