AMD’s 2-year APU plan revealed: Navi 2 integrated as early as 2021

A Twitter whistleblower under the pseudonym _rogame, who has provided numerous credible leaks over the past year, today revealed details about AMD’s upcoming APUs. These details fill in the gaps in previously known data regarding AMD’s plans.

According to this information, AMD is expected to release the first APU with Navi 2 graphics, codenamed VanGogh, next year. This processor will include Zen 2 cores with a TDP of just 9W. As _rogame himself noted, these will be high-end solutions. However, the main focus will be on the Cezanne series, which will offer processors with Zen 3 cores and integrated graphics. Curiously, unlike VanGogh, these solutions will still include the rather old Vega graphics.

AMD will also release updated APUs with Zen 3 cores and 6nm process technology by the end of next year. These APUs, codenamed Rembrandt, will replace Cezanne and receive updated Navi 2 integrated graphics. Rumours of the company’s 6nm chips are not new, although AMD has never officially confirmed this.

The informant also named a completely new codename Barcelo: it will allegedly be an upgrade to Cezanne-U and a replacement for Lucienne-U. As a reminder, the Ryzen 5000U series is expected to include both Zen 3-based Cezanne-U and Zen 2-based Lucienne-U APUs. It looks like AMD may continue this trend.

Dragon Crest is also called a simple upgrade – VanGogh with the same Zen 2 cores and Navi 2 graphics. Finally, the upcoming Pollock APUs will be relatively simple 14nm solutions with first-generation Zen cores and Vega graphics, but with a TDP of only 4, 5 W.

AMD is set to unveil its Ryzen 5000 processors, codenamed Cezanne-H and Cezanne-U, at CES 2021 this January. Some may still remember the AMD internal slide, which was previously published in parts by MebiuW informant. It remained incomplete, but the truncated letter D is an indirect confirmation of the mentioned Dragon Crest codename.
