The number of messages is not very large yet, but new ones come regularly – apparently, the problem concerns some part of the devices. Over the past two days, complaints have been on the rise on sites such as the Pixel Phone Forum and the XDA Forum, and numerous photographs have been posted showing the gap, which can vary both in location and size (some have barely noticeable, but someone catches the eye).

Android Police have confirmed that their own Pixel 5 suffers from this problem too, albeit not critically. In most reports, the gap is observed in the corner closest to the camera cutout; at the top of the phone; and above the SIM tray on the left side. But it can also show up in other areas. While most of the images show the problem in black, it also affects the green version.

It’s not clear if this gap affects the phone’s waterproof performance, but it does accumulate dust, and the cracks don’t look very good on a high-end device. Judging by the latest reports, these gaps are present initially, so it is unlikely that the screen will come off or the gaps will enlarge.
