Radeon RX 6800 XT overclocked to 2650 MHz with reference cooler and set an absolute record in 3DMark FireStrike

Official sales of the Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics accelerator began yesterday, and according to reviews, the new product is a very interesting alternative to the GeForce RTX 3080 model, generally yielding to the latter in terms of pure performance by only a few percent. What really stands out about the Radeon graphics card is its frequency potential.

Indonesian enthusiast Alva Jonathan, known in the HWBot.org community as Lucky_n00b, has set a new world record for 3DMark synthetic benchmark performance with the Radeon RX 6800 XT. Before overclocking the graphics processor of the video card, the overclocker overclocked the Ryzen 9 5950X processor using liquid nitrogen to 5.4 GHz.

To set a new world record, Lucky_n00b used the reference version of the Radeon RX 6800 XT, equipped with a standard air cooling system.

Under such conditions, the enthusiast was able to overclock her GPU to 2650 MHz. Thanks to this, the system scored an impressive 47,932 points in the 3DMark FireStrike test, which is 225 points higher than the previous world record set using the ASUS ROG GeForce RTX 3090 Strix OC graphics card.

In fairness, it should be noted that before the test, Alva turned off the tessellation, which gave the Radeon video card more performance headroom. The result was not officially accepted by the benchmark itself, so it did not get into the 3DMark Hall of Fame. However, the HWBot.org database accepted the test result.

It should be added that the world record for graphics performance was set by a non-flagship solution from AMD. Recall that on December 8, the senior model of the so-called Big Navi series – Radeon RX 6900 XT, built on the basis of a full-fledged Navi 21 XTX crystal – should go on sale. Perhaps in the coming weeks, we will be able to see for the first time how the Radeon graphics card overcomes the GPU frequency of  3 GHz.
