Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 looks revealed thanks to official low-res image

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 foldable smartphone is without a doubt one of the most anticipated mobile devices this year. And today, less than three weeks before the official presentation, the first very vague, but the official image of this device appeared on the Web.

The authenticity of the image, initially “lit up” on the vastness of the social network Weibo, was confirmed at once by two well-known network Western sources. Looking at it, it becomes clear that Samsung has decided to use the same (at least externally) main camera module for the Galaxy Z Fold 2 as for the future Galaxy Note 20 series of smartphones.

Unfortunately, due to the angle of the foldable smartphone, it is not entirely clear in the picture how many sensors the main camera uses – only two are visible in the image. However, early rumors attributed the device to a triple camera module. The main one supposedly will be a 12-megapixel sensor. To help it, another 12-megapixel sensor with wide-angle optics will be allocated, as well as a 64-megapixel telephoto sensor with support for 3x digital zoom. Obviously, they were all “borrowed” from the Galaxy S20 + smartphone. However, it is not yet known whether one of the cameras will perform the TOF function to correctly read the depth of field when shooting photographs and blurry videos, like in the Galaxy S20 +.

It looks like the Galaxy Z Fold 2’s external display has grown over the bezel used in the original version. According to the latest data, it has increased from 4.3 inches to 6.23 inches diagonally and thanks to the new aspect ratio, it will get thinner bezels around the edges. The official image of the device confirms this, and also indicates the new location of the external front camera, which from now on will be located exactly in the middle of the upper part of the panel, and not in the upper right corner, like the original model.

The inner folding screen will also change. Firstly, it is credited with the size increased from 7.3 to 7.7 inches, and secondly, Samsung, apparently, decided to take a more elegant approach to the placement of additional internal front cameras. In the published image, there is no large cutout in the corner of the top of the screen for the front cameras (like the original model), so it is likely that Samsung is using dot notches for them.

Simultaneously with the publication of the render of the Galaxy Z Fold 2, images of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra smartphone, Galaxy Buds Live wireless headphones, and the Galaxy Watch 3 have appeared on the Internet. It is expected that these products, as well as the Galaxy Z Fold 2, will be officially presented on 5 August as part of the Galaxy Unpacked online event. In addition, at the same time, the announcement of a new version of the foldable Galaxy Z Flip smartphone with 5G support is expected.

Network sources say that soon after the presentation, Samsung will open pre-orders for all of these devices. However, the actual start of sales of new products will begin at different times. The Galaxy Note 20 smartphones will start shipping from August 21, while the foldable devices will have to wait until September 20.
