The scarcity of Ryzen 5000, Radeon RX 6000 and GeForce RTX 30-series is such that even assemblers of ready-made gaming PCs howled

It seems that the shortage of new computer components has significantly hit not only ordinary buyers but also companies that assemble ready-made gaming computers, especially small ones. In a conversation with the gaming publication PCWorld, many of them complained about the shortage of new AMD processors, as well as Radeon RX 6000 and GeForce RTX 30 series graphics accelerators.

According to one of the sources describing the availability of the new Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards, he ” feels like he is being fed scraps .” Another said that the situation is so bad that if some of the suppliers have new video cards, then there is no talk about the price of the goods.

“We don’t even have the opportunity to negotiate the cost of supplying new video cards. Buy graphics accelerators come at prices significantly higher than those that have been announced as recommended by AMD itself. In general, the situation with the supply of components this fall was very ugly, “ – said one of the PC builders.

Interestingly, not all vendors were unambiguous about the release of Radeon RX 6000 video cards. Some felt that the new items had not yet shown themselves, and therefore did not deserve special attention. Others noted very limited supplies, so they did not even try to add them to their range.

“Launching Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards seemed like paper to me. I hate to admit it, but there are simply no video cards anywhere, ”one of the PC builders commented.

It turned out to be almost impossible to agree on the supply of new AMD Ryzen 5000 processors, especially the older models, the 12-core Ryzen 9 5900X and the 16-core Ryzen 9 5950X. Some of the sources of the publication noted that due to the unavailability of new chips, they have to sell systems based on old Ryzen 3000 processors. Because of this, demand for the latter has increased dramatically. For example, the demand for the Ryzen 5 3600X model today is twice as high as it was a couple of months ago. Amazon also spotted a six-core Ryzen 5 3600XT priced at $ 599, $ 50 higher than the recommended cost of the even more mythical 12-core Ryzen 9 5900X.

AMD has not yet responded to complaints from vendors but claims that the demand for its new products is simply unprecedented. As for NVIDIA, demand for their new GeForce RTX 30 GPUs was 40% higher than its other GPU models in the last quarter and last year, according to PCWorld.

The most scarce NVIDIA solutions turned out to be the GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 models. Many hopes were pinned on the launch of the younger GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, but with a declared cost of $ 399 by NVIDIA itself, these video cards are now sold twice as expensive. At the same time, several PC builders reported at once that they began to receive new deliveries of GeForce RTX 30 series video cards almost regularly.

According to the publication, none of the vendors sees any reason for the observed shortage of computer components. Nevertheless, most agree, for example, that NVIDIA simply did not foresee such a high demand for its new video cards. Some note that the manufacturer openly apologized to them for the lack of offers, others complain that the company hastened to discontinue production of the GeForce RTX 20 models, not making sure that the market will receive a sufficient amount of new generation video cards.  According to the same NVIDIA, supply problems will continue for at least a couple of months, until the chip makers can reach the production volume corresponding to the demand for new video cards.

And what about Intel? The offers of this company were not included in the statistics of scarce goods. Right now, you can easily buy an eight-core Core i9-9900K for only $ 320 (at least in the US), and a 10-core Intel Core i9-10850K for $ 489. Someone would now probably say that Intel processors simply do not attract anyone, but according to one vendor, the availability of blue chips is due to a much more reliable supply chain.

In general, PC builders note that the demand for desktop gaming systems is breaking all records. Some point out sales growth of 300-400%. Fortunately for them, supply issues for Ryzen 5000 processors are still offset by the availability of Ryzen 3000 models.

It is not worth expecting an improvement in the situation with the availability of the above computer components at least until the beginning of 2021 until AMD and NVIDIA have established their production, PCWorld points out. One factor complicating this issue is the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Many component factories are still out of order, and there are serious logistics problems around the world.

Worst of all, scarcity affects the price of the product. As mentioned above, vendors themselves pay for the supply of new products significantly higher than the cost that was declared by the manufacturers themselves. If we add to this the problems in logistics and not the most economical methods of solving them – for example, some resort to very expensive air services – it is not at all surprising that prices for video cards at the beginning of next year may increase by another 100-150 dollars.
