Previously, only 3 chats could be pinned
Google has launched a fresh innovation for Google Messages, the basic messaging app for Android smartphones. The update expands the ability to pin chats.

You can pin both personal and group chats. A pinned chat will always be visible at the top of the chat list.
Android’s main messenger, Google Messages, can now pin up to five chats

When Google first introduced this feature a few years ago, users had a tighter limit of only three chats to pin.
To inform users of this small quality-of-life improvement, after the update, long-pressing a chat will bring up the “Pin up to 5 conversations” tooltip.
