Just coincidence: the US is about to ban TikTok in a month, in time for the launch of its Facebook counterpart

As we already reported, the White House is considering blacklisting TikTok, which would actually prohibit Americans from using the popular video application – this is presented as a concern for the personal data of Americans that may go to the Chinese government.

According to the Financial Times resource, referring to three informants from the Trump administration, it was proposed to include ByteDance (the Chinese parent company TikTok) in the list of banned organizations in the department of trade, where Huawei is already languishing. This move will make it extremely difficult for US companies to interact with TikTok. The restrictions will include software, which means Apple and other app stores will no longer be able to redistribute the software.

The official said the Donald Trump administration will conclude within a month: “We are going to send a very strong message to China” The administration is aware that TikTok is popular with the public, and therefore is thinking about how to allow people to use the application while excluding the possibility of China’s access to people’s private data.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently announced that the US is considering banning the application for security reasons. TikTok is owned by ByteDance, a Chinese technology company based in Beijing. American politicians have voiced concerns about TikTok’s Chinese roots for months. And US President Donald Trump (Donald Trump) said that the ban is being considered in retaliation for China for COVID-19.

The administration is also allegedly contemplating the passage of the Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977, which would treat TikTok as an “unusual and extreme threat” to US national or economic security. The White House will not comment on these new messages.

Interestingly, news recently surfaced that Facebook is also about to launch Instagram Reels in about a month, the American response to TikTok. The launch will allegedly take place in the United States, and the service will be deployed in more than 50 other countries within a few weeks. The software has been allegedly developed for more than a year. Like TikTok, Instagram Reels allows users to create and share 15-second video clips with a vast catalog of music. Users can also take and remix audio from other people’s videos; some clips go viral and appear in the Featured Reels section among the most popular.
