Personalized ads on TikTok to become mandatory next month
It became known that personalized ads will soon become mandatory on the popular short video service TikTok. This means that users will be served ads based on their online interests, whether they like it or not. According to reports, these changes will take effect in the middle of next month.
“ Starting April 15, the app settings will change, and the advertisements you see may be based on your behavior on TikTok, ” the notice, which began to circulate to users of the platform, reads. As a reminder, currently, users have the option to disable personalized ads in the application settings.
A TikTok spokesperson noted that the platform is “committed” to respecting users’ privacy. “ We will continue to be transparent about our privacy practices and help users understand how privacy is maintained through our Security Center, ” a service representative said.
TikTok users will continue to opt-out of personalized ads based on data collected from other sites and apps. However, you will not be able to opt-out of ads based on content viewed on TikTok. It’s worth noting that personalized ads work similarly on other major platforms such as Twitter or Facebook.
This change is most likely due to a new Apple policy, according to which the application must receive explicit permission from the user to collect and process data. Any apps that do not request this permission may be removed from the App Store.
