The court hearing on the blocking of TikTok in the United States on Sunday morning lasted an hour and a half, the decision made by the court satisfied the defendant, since the ban on downloading the application by American users will not take effect this week, as expected. A deal with the American business TikTok, its participants still have to conclude by November 12.

The District of Columbia Court upheld ByteDance ‘s lawsuit seeking to block the ban on American users from downloading the TikTok app from September 27. The plaintiff in the case was the US Department of Commerce, it expressed its readiness to act in accordance with the court’s decision, but did not specify whether it intends to appeal this decision. Judge Carl Nichols (Carl Nichols) did not cancel the requirement of the decree of the President of the United States, according to which new restrictions on the operation of TikTok in this country will come into force on November 12, unless control of the business is transferred to American companies.

Oracle and Walmart are preparing to play the role of the latter, which will each get 12.5 and 7.5% of TikTok Global shares, respectively. ByteDance consoles itself with the thought that it will control the remaining 80%, but the American side prefers to take into account the share of loyal investment companies in ByteDance’s capital, speaking of control over TikTok’s business. Thus, now the parties get some margin of time to continue negotiations without a threat to the functioning of the service in the United States, but this does not guarantee a quick resolution of the existing differences. The current US president may speed up the deal in light of the upcoming elections.
