TikTok will compete with Facebook in the US e-commerce market

According to online sources, popular short video service TikTok is planning an aggressive assault on the US e-commerce market. To compete with Facebook and other market players, the service plans to introduce new online shopping features later this year.

One of the new features will allow the platform’s most popular users to share links to different products and receive a commission on their sales. TikTok will also feature “live streams” of purchases, versions of TV channels for smartphones, on which users can make purchases in a few clicks. Besides, TikTok is working on a feature that allows brands to post their ads on the platform without using intermediaries. The developers plan to improve the tools used to track user activity, which will help improve personalized advertising.

The TikTok platform is expected to emerge as a competitor to Facebook in the US e-commerce market. However, it will not be easy to do, as the future of the service in the US remains unclear. The administration of former US President Donald Trump has declared TikTok a national security threat due to the Chinese company ByteDance and planned to ban the platform in the country. Whether the attitude towards the service will change after Joe Biden comes to power is still unknown. TikTok representatives refrain from commenting on this issue.
